Y2K Flash Mirror Selfie (circa 2003)

A 4:3 photograph that looks like it was taken with a Sony Cybershot DSC-P10 in 2003 — a 5-megapixel point-and-shoot, on-camera xenon flash, automatic settings, taken by the person in the uploaded photo of themselves, in a bedroom mirror. The kind of photo that ended up on a Hi5 or Orkut profile and was rediscovered twenty years later.

Identity preservation — the face must come straight from the uploaded photograph. Same eyes (including any small asymmetry), same nose, same lip shape, same jawline, same eyebrows, same hairline, same skin tone, same visible moles, freckles, or imperfections. The harsh flash will already wash out the skin slightly, the way a small-sensor compact does — that is the only modification allowed. Do not slim the face, do not enlarge the eyes, do not smooth pores beyond what the flash already does. The whole point of this photograph is that it is unflattering in a 2003 way, and the face is unmistakably the user's.

The shot: the subject is standing alone in front of a frameless mirror leaned against a bedroom wall, holding a small silver compact digital camera at chest height. There is nobody else in the frame — no friends, no roommates, no parents in the doorway, no reflection of anyone else in any other surface. Just her, the mirror, the camera. She is holding the camera with two hands, slightly off-centre, and the lens is pointed at the mirror. The flash is firing directly into the mirror — there is a circular blown-out highlight at the centre-right of the image where the flash bulb has reflected back, with a soft halo of overexposure around it. The camera body, fingers, and lower face are partially obscured by this flash bloom.

Wardrobe (early-2000s authentic, choose one consistent set, do not mix eras):
A baby tee in pastel pink with a small printed graphic across the chest — could be a butterfly, a heart, a smiling cartoon character — slightly cropped to show the navel. Low-rise bootcut jeans, the waistband visibly low, a thin studded belt threaded through. A choker — black plastic with a small silver charm. Three or four thin metal bangles on the wrist not holding the camera. Hair half-up in a butterfly clip, with the front sections side-swept and gelled flat to the cheekbone (the era's signature "side bangs"). Eye makeup: shimmer pastel, eyeliner only on the lower lash. Lip gloss only, no lipstick.

The room behind / around her:
A bedroom that has not been styled for the photo. A poster of a 2003-era pop band visible on the wall to one side, the poster's edges curling slightly. Fairy lights along the top of the mirror, only some of them on. A pile of clothes on a chair in the corner. A small CRT TV on a wooden stand, switched off. A flip phone on the dresser. Beige carpet. A textured cream wall.

Image character (this is the most important paragraph, do not soften any of it):
— The flash is harsh, on-axis, and uneven. The face and chest are over-exposed by roughly 1.5 stops. The background is under-exposed by roughly 2 stops and falls into a soft blue-grey murk.
— Visible noise/grain in the shadows, the chunky luminance noise that small CCDs from 2003 produced — not film grain, not modern AI grain, the specific blocky noise of a 1/2.5" sensor at ISO 200.
— Slight chromatic aberration at high-contrast edges (purple fringing).
— A faint barrel distortion — straight lines near the edges of the frame curve outward slightly.
— Mild JPEG compression artefacts visible if you look closely — slight blocking in smooth gradients, a hint of mosquito noise around edges.
